Ex-NFL QB: There’s a lot of ‘overreaction’ in Jets organization

The 3-8 Jets are now undergoing a mid-season organizational reset after beginning the season with Super Bowl aspirations.
Last week, owner Woody Johnson fired general manager Joe Douglas. The move came six weeks after he dismissed head coach Robert Saleh.

Then, a report from The Athletic emerged that said Johnson actually considered benching quarterback Aaron Rodger in Week 4. ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky spoke to Steve Serby of the New York Post about his reaction.
“I had heard that report in Week 4,” he said. “I didn’t believe it, because I was like, “No way.” My response was, “There’s just no way that this is real.” It just seemed overreactionary. Even when they fired Robert Saleh, I went on national TV and said, “This feels overreactionary.” I think there’s just been a lot of overreaction.”
Entering Week 12 with a 3-8 record wasn’t good enough for this team that began the year with lofty expectations, and Johnson clearly didn’t want to wait until the offseason to part ways with Douglas.
Douglas made several notable draft picks while with the Jets — especially in 2022, when he landed Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Jermaine Johnson and Breece Hall. The Jets have named Phil Savage as the interim general manager.
